Matt finishes the year strong in Hong Kong
10 December 2018

With a final round charge of 64, Matt took solo second at the 2019 Honma Hong Kong Open. A great finish to his 2018 calendar year and a great start to his 2019 Race to Dubai.

Aaron Rai began the final day six shots ahead of the chasing pack, with Matt being the only player to make a good run at the 54 hole leader. Having got within one stroke of the lead after 16, a three putt on 17 saw Rai re-claim his two shot lead playing the last. An eventual bogey was enough for him to claim the title and Matt to miss out by a shot on 16 under par. A great performance to end the year and take some confidence into next season. Matt said:

"I really enjoyed my time in Hong Kong. It's been coming for a while so it's nice to the hard work pay off. Just a shame I'm now taking six weeks off! I love coming back here, the golf course really suits my game and it was nice to get the putter going. It's something that hasn't really clicked this season."

The performance left Matt second on the new 2019 Race to Dubai after one event.
