D+D REAL Czech Masters and Ryder Cup qualification
22 August 2016

Matt finished in a share of fifth place at the D+D REAL Czech Masters which was enough to secure him an automatic spot in Europe’s team for the Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.

After opening the week with consecutive rounds of 69 at the Albatross Golf Resort, Matt shot 71 and then finished the week with another 69 to take fifth place on his own.

The 21-year-old currently sits ninth on the World Points List and, with one week of the qualification remaining, can not be overtaken.

The two-time European Tour winner is thrilled at the prospect of making his debut in the famous biennial match against the United States.

He said: “"It's very exciting now. We can look forward to it and get my game in shape.

"I've probably been in the team for the longest period of time. It started a few weeks before I won at the British Masters and jumped into the team and I've managed to stay there since then. It's been absolutely phenomenal and I'm just delighted to be in the team.

"It's a great opportunity, I've got my first one coming up and hopefully I can just keep pushing on my game and getting better.

"It's just happened so fast it's difficult for it to sink in. At the start of this year it had a dip but I've just got to keep working hard and see what happens.”

Rory McIlroy, Danny Willett, Henrik Stenson, Chris Wood, Sergio Garcia, Rafa Cabrera Bello, Justin Rose and Andy Sullivan have also secured their places in the team.

The match takes place between September 30 and October 2 in Minnesota with captain Darren Clarke announcing his three wild card selections on August 30.

Matt plays at Made in Denmark this week.
